Timing of Results

Our goal is to ensure you receive your results promptly, with thorough review and follow-up care as needed. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Providers review all test results before discussing them with patients. However, labs such as Labcorp, Quest, or hospitals may send results directly to you before they are reviewed by your provider.

  • We ask patients not to call about results already received from the lab. Your provider will review and communicate their interpretation as soon as possible.

  • Patient Portal: For the fastest access to provider-reviewed results, we encourage patients to use the portal.

Important Notes:

  • Test results are prioritized by urgency, with critical results addressed first.

  • Occasionally, portal results may indicate slight abnormalities that are still within normal limits. If you have questions or concerns, please send a portal message to your provider.

Timing of Imaging & Radiology Results

Our provider team actively monitors incoming results.

  • For imaging conducted to address acute symptoms, we will contact you as soon as possible.

  • For screening or routine monitoring, we will reach out as soon as we can, prioritizing urgent and critical results to ensure timely follow-up for those who need it most.

Results for Testing Performed Outside MFM

  • Results for imaging performed at Beverly Hospital, Addison Gilbert Hospital, or Beth Israel Lahey Health Care Center-Danvers may be posted on your MyLaheyChart patient portal before your provider has had a chance to review them.

  • We kindly ask patients not to call about these results, as your provider will review them and reach out to you with their interpretation.

General Timelines for Specific Tests

  • Echocardiograms: Results are reviewed by a cardiologist and may take up to one week to be reviewed and shared.

  • Stress Tests are reviewed by a cardiologist, and it may take one week for the results to be reviewed and shared.

  • ZioPatch Monitoring can take 1-2 weeks after the test is sent back for results to be reviewed and shared.

  • Sleep Studies can take 1-2 weeks after the test is sent back for results to be reviewed and shared.

Timing of Lab & Diagnostic Results

At MFM Health, we aim to provide timely and accurate test results. Below is an overview of result timelines and additional details to keep in mind:

General Timeframes:

  • Routine Bloodwork: Typically 1–2 business days

  • Infectious Disease Testing: Same-day for urgent tests, otherwise 1–2 business days

Specialist Consultations

If your Primary Care Provider orders a consultation with a specialist, follow these simple steps to set up an appointment.  Instructions for requesting an insurance referral are in the next section.

MFM Specialty Provider Appointment Scheduling

  • Patients can schedule many specialist consults through our online booking platform directly to set up appointments, including Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Women's Health, and Sports Medicine

  • For MFM specialists who do not currently allow self-scheduling, including Behavioral Health or Endocrinology, our teams will contact you to schedule.

External (non-MFM) Provider Appointment Scheduling

  • Before you leave, make sure you get any necessary specialty office phone numbers to schedule your outside specialty appointment.

  • Our Primary Care team will send your information to the specialist office indicated on your consultation order ahead of your visit.

  • If your outside specialty consult visit is urgent or if you are having trouble scheduling an appointment yourself, our team will be happy to assist you in setting up an appointment with the outside specialty provider. Please send us a message through the Patient Portal.

Follow-up Appointments

  • Schedule Before You Leave: To ensure you get the time you want, we recommend booking follow-ups and physicals at checkout before leaving the office.

  • When to Follow Up: If your symptoms persist, worsen, or change, we encourage you to book a follow-up appointment so we can provide the best care based on your current symptoms.
