What to Expect from Our Weight Management Program

Expected Weight Loss
Results vary, but most individuals can expect to lose 5 to 15% of their current weight over a year through sustainable lifestyle changes.
Diet Recommendations
Our dietitians create personalized diets that are maintainable over time. Regular monthly meetings with your dietitian are essential to discover what works best for you.
Frequency of Visits
You will need to be seen monthly by our team, alternating visits between the prescribing physician or nurse practitioner and the registered dietitian.

Insurance Coverage
Insurance coverage for obesity treatments varies. Please verify with your insurance what they cover, including dietitian visits and weight loss medications. We will bill visits as specialist or dietitian visits accordingly.
Please note: Medicare does not cover weight loss medications, so we are unable to offer pharmacological management for patients with Medicare.
FDA-Approved Medications
Medications such as Saxenda, Wegovy, Zepbound, Qsymia, Contrave, and Orlistat are FDA-approved for weight loss. It is crucial to check with your insurance about which brands they cover and if they require step therapy.
Candidate Criteria
Due to limited availability, at this time to be eligible for weight loss medications in our endocrinology department, you must have a BMI of 35 kg/m2 or greater, with or without a co-morbid condition.
Medication Safety
The FDA has approved several medications to aid with weight loss management including: Semaglutide (Wegovy), tirzepatide (Zepbound), naltrexone-bupropion (Contrave), liraglutide (Saxenda), Orlistat (Xenical, Alli), and phentermine-topiramate (Qsymia).
Your prescriber will select a safe and effective medication for you, considering any existing conditions or medications.

Medication Availability Notice
Due to nationwide shortages of some medications, it is your responsibility to locate a pharmacy that has the medication in stock. If you miss doses due to supply issues, follow up with your prescriber for guidance.
Program Conduct
Abusive language and demanding behavior will not be tolerated and can result in termination from the program and discontinuation of weight loss medications.
